The American Humanities Index™, produced by Whitston Publishing (an imprint of EBSCO Publishing), recently passed a content milestone. As of January 1, 2004, the index contains more than half a million records drawn from more than 1,000 literary, scholarly and creative journals published in the United States and Canada. Dating back to 1975, the database includes many smaller journals and publications unavailable in other reference sources. American Humanities Index provides cover-to-cover indexing of journal content, including citations for all original creative works, such as poetry and fiction. In September 2003, EBSCO Publishing, a leading producer and distributor of full text and bibliographic databases, acquired Whitston Publishing Company, Inc., a well-respected publisher of reference works for academic and public libraries since 1969. Whitston's flagship database, the American Humanities Index has been available through the popular EBSCOhost® online research service since January 2003. "American Humanities Index continues to grow and expand its offering of unique scholarly and creative content for academic libraries," according to Michael O. Laddin, president of Whitston Publishing. "Passing the half-million record mark is an important milestone for the index, and we will continue adding high-quality data to American Humanities Index at an increasing rate in the months ahead," said Laddin.
