BookSource: Nonfiction™ contains full text and informative abstracts for 1,000 popular, nonfiction books found in school and public libraries. It includes books on science, social studies, history and literature, along with valuable, current information on careers, health, sports, adventure and technology. The content includes many popular, acclaimed titles and series from top book publishers like Millbrook Press, Inc., Lerner Publishing Group, Rourke Publishing, LLC, Capstone Press, Chelsea House and Mason Crest Publishers. Award-winning titles are an integral part of the database with books such as Poisonous Creatures from the Scientific American Sourcebooks series; Greenland Mummies from the Time Travelers series; and Deep Space Astronomy from the Enthusiastic Astronomy series. Other prized series include Careers With Character, Compact Guides to Fitness & Health, Kingdoms of Life, and Making a Better World. School Library Journal and Booklist give superior reviews and awards to books from the book series 101 Questions, Women At War, Today's Issues, and Yearbooks in Science, among others in the database. Another important feature of the database is the inclusion within the citations of nationally developed curriculum benchmarks. One or more of 170 benchmarks is assigned to content within the following categories: language arts, civics, earth and space sciences, physical sciences, US history, and world history. The benchmarks will appear in the citation as a live link. If it is clicked, a list of all content in the database sharing the same benchmark will appear. The database is 100 percent full text and fully searchable. Users will be able to limit their searches by one or more of the following criteria: book title, year published, Lexile reading level, number of pages, or articles with images. Furthermore, searches can be conducted from book title and subject authority files. The book content is broken into manageable, meaningful units, based on the divisions established by the publishers. These units can be chapters, sub-headings or whole books for short, one-subject publications. Each unit will appear as its own record in the result list with its own citation information and detailed abstract. The citation for each record will also include a link, "Click to view Table of Contents," that will provide a list in the order of the table of contents of all the records for that specific publication in the database. Additional books and updates will be provided on a continual basis. Release Date: March 17, 2003 |
