EBSCOhost® Electronic Journals Service (EJS) announces it recently signed an agreement to index content from the University of California Press. "As scholarly information proliferates within the electronic marketplace, it has become very important for us not only to establish greater visibility for our journals, but also to streamline access to our online content," said Rebecca Simon, assistant director for journals publishing at the University of California Press. "With the EJS gateway, we'll be able to accomplish these goals and be backed by one of the best known resources in the industry." Meg Waites, EJS content manager, EBSCO Information Services said, "The increased visibility for University of California Press content will result in greater usage, which is the primary goal." EBSCO is pleased to partner with the University of California Press and many other university presses to enhance content visibility and availability, especially in this year designated by The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) and The Association of American University Presses (AAUP) as "The Year of the University Press." ARL and AAUP have made this designation to celebrate the important role presses play in the scholarly communications process. They will be working to build an appreciation of the depth and breadth of works published by university presses and to increase understanding among faculty, students, administrators and librarians of the mission and function of university presses. They will also stimulate serious discussion of the future of university presses within their institutions and in scholarly communication and encourage innovative projects in scholarly communication among libraries and presses. EJS Enhanced offers extensive features that help with e-journal management tasks such as: tracking the registration status of e-journals, authentication assistance to facilitate both on-campus and remote access to e-journal content, automatic management of e-journal URLs and much more. EBSCO provides durable URLs for every journal, table of contents and article in EJS Enhanced. No URL maintenance by the library is required. A basic version of this service is also offered to provide a library with a single site for accessing those e-journals to which they subscribe through EBSCO.
