Chemical Abstracts Service Provides Full-Text Linking to EBSCOhost ® Databases IPSWICH , Mass. — June 25, 2005 — Customers of both Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) and EBSCOhost ® full-text databases can enable seamless linking from citations in the CAplus SM database to corresponding full text in their EBSCOhost databases. This linking is facilitated by the ChemPort ® service provided by CAS to their subscribers. Thus, for customers of both services, CAS may appear to the end user as a “full text database”. In addition, CAS customers subscribing to e-journals via the EBSCOhost Electronic Journals Service can enable full-text links to these journals as well. The ultimate aim of a comprehensive bibliographic database is to assist users in locating information that is relevant to their research needs. This is further heightened through the immediate availability of full text as is afforded through the ChemPort links. For example, this linking would enable CAS customers also subscribing to EBSCO’s general academic research database, Academic Search ™ Premier, to gain instant access to full text for nearly 300 journals indexed in CAplus. CAS, a division of the American Chemical Society, is an organization of scientists creating and delivering the most complete and effective digital information environment for scientific research and discovery. CAS provides pathways to published research in the world’s journal and patent literature—virtually everything relevant to chemistry plus a wealth of information in the life sciences and a wide range of other scientific disciplines—back to the beginning of the twentieth century. In addition to offering STN ® in North America, CAS publishes the print version of Chemical Abstracts ™ (CA), related publications and CD-ROM services; operates the CAS Chemical Registry; produces a family of online databases; and offers the SciFinder ® desktop research tool. The CAS web site is at www.cas.org. EBSCO Publishing is part of the EBSCO Information Services group. EBSCO Information Services provides libraries and research centers with online and print journal subscription services, e-resource access and management services, full-text and secondary database development and access, an OpenURL-compliant link resolver, online book purchasing and related information services. EBSCO maintains a title database of more than 298,000 serial titles and upholds relationships with more than 78,000 publishers around the world. EBSCO’s 32 Regional Offices worldwide are staffed with personnel who speak the local language and understand the particular challenges faced by librarians in their areas, offering a uniquely personal level of service. Specialized divisions serve academic, biomedical, government, public, school and special libraries as well as corporations. For more information, visit www.ebsco.com.
