EBSCO Publishing today announced it has recently acquired Computer Literature Index (CLI) from Applied Computer Research, Inc. The company plans to make the popular database available via EBSCOhost® by Fall 2003. Computer Literature Index began as a print-only product and later became available in an online version designed as a supplement to the original print document. In its current state, the database offers indexing and abstracts for nearly 300 computer-related trade publications, business magazines & journals and other reference sources dating as far back as 1996. Upon release of the database, EBSCO intends not only to expand the archival coverage of the Index back to 1984, but also to enhance many of the references available in the database, including the addition of more robust abstracts. These planned enhancements, combined with the searching power, advanced linking capabilities and other features of EBSCOhost, will add great value to libraries subscribing to CLI from EBSCO. Mark Herrick, vice president of business development for EBSCO Publishing, said, "We are pleased to have the opportunity to take this already valuable database that covers such a crucial subject area, add to it the advanced features of EBSCOhost, and offer it to institutions all over the world. EBSCO has proven successes in bringing, through acquisition, databases such as CLI to the 'next level' of development and exposure. We are excited about the Computer Literature Index database, and are actively looking for additional databases to acquire." According to Alan Howard, publisher, Applied Computer Research, Inc., "We are thrilled that Computer Literature Index will be made available throughEBSCOhost. With EBSCO's editorial experience and sales and marketing strength, the database will be greatly enhanced and distributed to a much wider audience." Release Date: April 10, 2003 |
