EBSCO Introduces Online Reader ® Self-Paced
Optional Version of Popular Reading Comprehension Service Offers Unique Benefits

IPSWICH, Mass. — In a continuing effort to provide teachers and their students with a variety of options for reading comprehension resources, EBSCO Publishing has released a new, streamlined version of its popular Online Reader ® service entitled Online Reader ® Self-Paced. This new version of Online Reader allows motivated students to advance through the available reading comprehension exercises at their own speed.

Online Reader Self-Paced is available through the EBSCOhost ® interface and allows librarians, students and teachers to search for appropriate reading materials (through the use of Lexile reading levels), take tests and check answers on their own. Multiple choice tests and answers accompany the articles for targeted reading comprehension practice. The original Online Reader reading comprehension and teacher management service continues to be made available as a separate resource through its own proprietary interface.

There are over 2,000 articles included in Online Reader Self-Paced, all of which have been chosen for their correlation to K-12 content areas and/or high interest topics. Articles are selected from journals featured in the EBSCOhost school library databases, such as Calliope, Cobblestone, Biography, U.S. News & World Report, Ranger Rick, Scientific American, and Essential Documents in American History.

Each Online Reader Self-Paced article is accompanied by a multiple choice reading comprehension test that can be printed out or completed online. Answer keys are available for each test, allowing users to manually check results. Users may search for articles by one or more of the following limiters: Keyword, Lexile reading level, or Subject. Results may be limited by Lexile range and grade level, an especially helpful feature enabling users to search for material best suited to their individual reading ability and range of difficulty.
