EBSCO Launches Free Interactive Web Sites for Schools & Public Libraries IPSWICH , Mass. — March 22, 2006 — EBSCO Publishing is pleased to announce the launch of free Web-based event kits to help libraries promote their online resources for young adults. The first, History–It’s Happening!, is designed for Middle and High school libraries as well as the Young Adult area of public libraries. This resource helps to promote North America 's vivid history and help celebrate events such as Women's History Month. This interactive site serves as a model for the type of EBSCO database searches that students can construct on their own. Creative graphics including the figures of Mount Rushmore guide users to the site's content. Students can use History–It’s Happening! to begin their own research or just browse key primary source documents, historic video footage, speeches, selected articles and Web sites about notable men and women from Canada and the United States . The Web site also features suggested reading information from NoveList® focusing on history in fiction. Michael McCulley, Collection Analysis & Online Services for the San Diego Public Library, recently said, “I encourage EBSCOhost and EBSCO Publishing to continue developing these great resources; not only are they valuable resources for information-hungry students, they are an aid to overworked teachers and librarians, too; and, they let users and staff know that your resources are great, deep in content, and useful in their ‘real classrooms and libraries.’” History–It’s Happening! also features a section for librarians and teachers that highlights suggestions for using the site as well as provides a sample e-mail announcement, search tips, and selected teacher guides. This free, interactive resource resides at the following URL: http://www.epnet.com/historypromo. The second event kit offered by EBSCO is entitled It’s a Reading Rave! This site has a strong, hip, pro-reading pulse, inviting young adults, librarians, and teachers to come together and explore reading and writing with resources recognized by library and classroom educators. It’s a Reading Rave! helps young adults find articles from a favorite magazine, explore literature with help from NoveList, and use other interactive reading resources. EBSCO has created two interactive Flash Web sites for It’s a Reading Rave! The first is a librarian portal that offers tips and tools to promote reading resources. The second site is a "main wing" designed specifically for young adults that features School Tools, Recommended Reading, Cool Links to quality sites, Fun Facts, and a Quiz to test trivia knowledge. For access to the librarian/educator page, please visit the following URL: http://www.epnet.com/flashPromo/librarian_page1.html For access to the “main wing” for students, please visit the following URL: To explore these special event kits and other tools, visit the EBSCO Publishing Customer Success Center at http://www.epnet.com.
