Introducing GLBT Life ® with Full Text

IPSWICH, Mass. — March 1, 2005 — EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) began the multi-year research and development process to create its GLBT Life ® database at a time when no definitive index was available for research into gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender literature. Upon its release, the database immediately took its place atop the limited group of available GLBT resources. Today, only a year after the release of this database, EBSCO introduces its sought-after full text counterpart – GLBT Life ® with Full Text.

Available exclusively via the EBSCOhost ® platform, GLBT Life with Full Text is the definitive resource for the world’s literature covering Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender issues. The database provides indexing and abstracts for more than 400 magazines, journals books and news sources, and also provides coverage for gray literature such as case studies and important speeches. Additionally, GLBT Life with Full Text includes full text for 50 of the most important and historically significant GLBT journals, magazines and regional newspapers, as well as dozens of full text monographs. Furthermore, the database offers specialized features such as a comprehensive GLBT Thesaurus containing over 6,300 terms, Searchable Cited References for appropriate magazines and journals, and EBSCO’s Hierarchical Journal Authority File. Disciplines covered by GLBT Life with Full Text include civil liberties, culture, employment, family, history, politics, psychology, religion, sociology and more. Additionally, GLBT Life and GLBT Life with Full Text will soon contain all relevant data from NISC's Sexual Diversity Studies.

GLBT Life with Full Text is the result of a network of partnerships and other strong working relationships between EBSCO and organizations such as the One National Gay & Lesbian Archives (formerly the ONE Institute & Archives) and the Lesbian Herstory Archives . The initial idea for GLBT Life spawned from discussions between EBSCO and members of its academic advisory board regarding the lack of substantial resources covering GLBT issues. Subsequently, a dedicated group of advisors, including lexicographers and other subject experts, was assembled for the sole purpose of facilitating the creation of the best possible GLBT resources. Though the database will continue to experience content additions, as of today, GLBT Life with Full Text is far and away the most robust research database available covering this important area of study.
