MetaPress® to Provide Hosting Service for Six New Publisher Clients

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama, U.S.A., October 19, 2005 - Six publishers have signed agreements to have MetaPress® provide them with electronic content management and hosting services. MetaPress is the online hosting platform service that is a part of Publisher Promotion & Fulfillment, a division of EBSCO Industries, Inc. These publishers are the Canadian Journal of Community Mental Health, Heldref Publications, the International Hormesis Society, New School University, Mobilization and Nua: Studies in Contemporary Irish Writing. The Canadian Journal of Community Mental Health is published twice a year by the Canadian Periodical for Community Studies Inc., and is a bilingual interdisciplinary publication devoted to the sharing of information and valid knowledge about phenomena pertinent to the mental well-being of Canadians and their communities.

Heldref Publications offers diverse publications devoted to research and practice in K-12 and higher education, world affairs and political science, history, world literatures (old and new), the arts, popular culture, psychology, health, the environment and social sciences. As a non-profit publisher, Heldref is guided by its mission to serve scholarly communication and to bring its readers thoughtful, spirited forums. The publications are available in print, online and in customizable course bundles.

The International Hormesis Society is dedicated to the enhancement, exchange and dissemination of ongoing global research efforts in hormesis, a dose-response phenomenon characterized by the nonlinear evidence of low-dose stimulation and high-dose inhibition. Formed to promote and expand on the scientific understanding of low-level effects, the International Hormesis Society will provide leadership across an array of fields for the integrated assessment of dose-response relationships, strongly working to encourage the assessment of the implications of hormesis in such fields as toxicology, pharmacology, medicine, biomedical research and risk assessment and communication. Nonlinearity in Biology, Toxicology and Medicine, the quarterly journal of the International Hormesis Society, is devoted to the publication of original findings on the occurrence of nonlinear dose-response relationships across a broad range of biological disciplines including physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, toxicology, radiation biology, pharmacology, medicine, experimental psychology, plant biology and environmental sciences.

Mobilization is a new international journal of research and theory specializing in social movements, protests and collective behavior. Its goal is to provide a forum for global, scholarly dialogue. The editorial board is composed of 30 internationally recognized scholars from political science, sociology and social psychology.

Social Research is a publication of the New School for Social Research, a division of The New School, a university. An award-winning international quarterly of the social sciences, Social Research has been mapping the landscape of intellectual thought since1934. Most issues are theme-driven, combining historical analysis, theoretical explanation and reportage in rigorous and engaging discussion by some of the world's leading scholars and thinkers. One of the oldest and most influential academic journals in the United States, Social Research draws its authors from around the world, presenting in its pages international and cross-disciplinary conversation on some of history and humanity's most interesting and complex subjects.

Said Managing Editor and Project Manager Cara Schlesinger: "We at Social Research are delighted to have MetaPress as a collaborator in publishing and promoting our journal as a whole. MetaPress remembers, as so many in this business do not, the value of print publication, and understands the particular difficulties that come with publishing an online edition of a print journal. We are looking forward to working with MetaPress as we reach out to readers in the electronic realm."

In its fifth volume, Nua: Studies in Contemporary Irish Writing is a refereed journal published with support from Carson Newman College and Bloomsburg University. With Nua, which is the Irish word for "new," a forum is provided for discussing contemporary Irish works - novels, short fiction, poetry, theater, film, creative non-fiction - from the past 30 years. James S. Brown, associate editor of the journal, said: "Rising production costs, coupled with our readership's preference for electronic rather than traditional delivery, made the move to an electronic-only format a wise choice. The on-demand presentation MetaPress provides subscribers is a great match for our focus on the latest contemporary Irish writing."
