RIPM Now Available from EBSCO Publishing IPSWICH, Mass. — May 23, 2005 — In an effort to offer the most comprehensive coverage of scholarly research pertaining to music and music-related studies, EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) is pleased to now provide access to RIPM Retrospective Index to Music Periodicals (RIPM) via EBSCOhost ®. Not only does this database stand as an unparalleled resource on its own, it also serves as the perfect complement to the RILM Abstracts of Music Literature (RILM) database, already available through EBSCOhost. RIPM is an international annotated bibliography of writings on musical history and culture, found in music periodicals published in seventeen countries between approximately 1800 and 1950. Treating primary source material, RIPM provides access to the content of complete runs of journals, including articles, reviews, news columns, miscellaneous items, surveys of the press, bibliographies, iconography and advertising. In addition, this database offers access to an immense bibliography of music and to thousands of English-language translations of foreign documents. Approximately 20,000 records are added annually. Plans are currently underway to expand RIPM’s coverage to include Latin American publications. RIPM and RILM are complementary publications published under the auspices of the International Musicological Society (IMS) and the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres (IAML). RIPM’s electronic and print publications focused, until 2001, almost exclusively on nineteenth-century music periodicals, and RILM’s, until recently, on music literature (of all document types) published from 1967 to the present. Recognizing the gap in coverage between 1901 and 1966, these two sister organizations have consulted with each other and carefully planned how—by extending their chronological boundaries and by organizing a distribution of periodical coverage—they can collectively offer access to over two-hundred years of periodical literature on music. EBSCO Publishing is part of the EBSCO Information Services group. EBSCO Information Services provides libraries and research centers with online and print journal subscription services, e-resource access and management services, full-text and secondary database development and access, an OpenURL-compliant link resolver, online book purchasing and related information services.
